Infertility

Our Austin obgyns can help you optimize your natural fertility, as well as diagnose and treat many of the issues that can cause infertility problems

When you decide to get pregnant, you may have a lot of questions. Finding a help begins with an appointment with our obgyns to discuss preconception health and optimizing natural fertility.

Patients who have concerns about infertility should bring them to our attention so that we can decide if we need to perform a physical examination or order further fertility testing. Our obgyns completed extensive training in reproductive health and can address your questions and concerns in a nurturing and caring manner.

Ask an Austin obgyn about optimizing fertility naturally

For most patients under age 35, our advice is to relax and remember that it can take up to one year of having sexual intercourse without birth control to get pregnant. Our Austin obgyns recommend that patients plan for optimal fertility before getting pregnant by addressing any chronic health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure or lupus.

We also recommend making important lifestyle changes in behavior that may create infertility issues, such as smoking and heavy drinking. Ideally, we want patients to be in the best health possible when they are trying to get pregnant.

When should I consult a doctor?

Our Austin obgyns suggest that patients consult them about infertility if they meet any of the following guidelines.

Under age 35 If you haven’t conceived in 1 year of having sexual intercourse without using birth control, seek help.

Age 35 and over If you haven’t become pregnant after 6 months of having sexual intercourse without using birth control, time is of the essence. Fertility declines significantly after age 35.

Troubling symptoms If a woman has a history of irregular periods or a history of conditions such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) or miscarriages, particularly women age 30 and over, she should inform her obgyn.

Infertility issues Any woman with a history of infertility problems (or with a partner with those issues) should alert our Austin obgyns so that we can devise a plan.

Diagnosing infertility

Women can have many basic tests for infertility at our offices. Our Austin obgyns offer tests to determine whether or not ovulation is taking place. We check hormone levels and function. Other fertility tests are available to check a patient’s ovarian reserve, which estimates the number of eggs available for future reproduction.

Our experienced physicians also offer tests such as ultrasound to look for physical problems in a patient’s reproductive system that may cause infertility. A hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure during which the physician inserts a device through the cervix into the uterus to look for problems such as polyps or fibroids. Other tests can determine the condition of the fallopian tubes.

Fertility treatments

If our Austin obgyns determine infertility issues, we can treat it with medication to correct hormone levels or help with ovulation, or we can employ treatments to correct physical problems such as polyps.

We are experienced in basic fertility testing, are here to help you get pregnant and deliver a healthy baby. If infertility issues do arise, we can help you through those, too. Contact us today for an appointment.
