Dr. Byron Darby has been a leader in ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis in Austin since 1981. He is a board certified Austin ObGyn. Initially opening his office as a primary obstetrician/gynecologist, his interest in ultrasound and genetics soon began to attract referrals from other physicians. He was the first physician in Central Texas to have ultrasound in the office, and the first in Austin to offer genetic amniocentesis and CVS procedures. By the early 1990’s, he gradually converted his practice fully to ultrasound and prenatal testing, giving up primary ObGyn. His practice at Renaissance Women’s Group has received the coveted American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine Accreditation recognizing excellence in ObGyn ultrasound.Byron attended the University of Texas in Austin as an undergraduate, then graduated from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Following medical school he completed his residency in ObGyn at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas before moving to Austin in 1981. He served as Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Seton Medical Center in Austin from 1991-1992, and served for over ten years as a member of the Seton Medical Ethics Council. He has served as a board member for both the Austin and Texas region chapters of the March of Dimes. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is a Fellow in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and a member of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.
The business aspects of medicine have always been an interest, and Byron has been the managing partner for the Renaissance Women’s Group since 1997. Additionally, he was instrumental in founding Central Texas OB/GYN Associates, a business merger between Renaissance Women’s Group and several other large ObGyn groups in Austin. He served as the first President of CTOA, and currently serves as Treasurer and Executive Board member. He has been named numerous times to “Best Physicians In Austin” and similar lists in publications such as Texas Monthly, Austin Monthly, and Who’s Who in Medicine.
Byron and his wife Mary have been married since 1976, and enjoy tennis, hiking, travel, cooking and water sports. They have two sons, both of whom are now Pediatricians. When the boys were younger, both Byron and Mary were active in coaching soccer, scouting and other youth educational and sporting activities.
